Murrumbidgee Visiting Voters

What is visiting voters?

Visiting voters is when a team of Greens volunteers go out in their neighbourhood to speak to voters on their doorstep and listen to what is important to them. It’s a great way to connect with voters and to hear what issues people care about.

If you're new to visiting voters, you are very welcome! Every session starts with a briefing and training, and you’ll be provided with a script and other resources. You have the option of going visiting with another volunteer, and at the end there is a team debrief to get your feedback.

Before you go visiting voters, we encourage you to attend our Campaign Skills 101 trainings. This training is a workshop on the value of face-to-face conversations, learning how you can start talking with voters at events like this.

Now that we have had a breather after campaigning in the Federal election it’s time to get back into action and support our candidates for the local seat of Murrumbidgee: lead candidate Caroline Le Couteur and support candidates Emma Davidson and Jennifer Le Couteur.  After this event we’ll have just 10 weeks to put our case before the Assembly elect on 15 October.

It’s important that we increase our representation in the Assembly in order to promote the progressive policies of the Greens, and it can be done if we get behind our hard-working candidates.  Having meaningful conversations with people is the most effective way to get our message of the Green's vision for the future.  Visiting voters, or door-knocking if you prefer, enables us to spread our message and to get useful information from the community.  Sometimes we can also recruit new volunteers.

If you haven't door-knocked before the prospect may seem daunting.  In fact almost all the people that you meet are very pleasant - even those who are strongly opposed to the Greens.  And you may have some very interesting conversations.  It's actually quite enjoyable.  However we can team you up with a buddy if that would make you more comfortable.

We'll start at 1pm with a short briefing at a nearby location at which walk lists will be handed out. Then we will set out on our walks.  At 4pm (or earlier if you need to finish) we will cease our visits and head back for a debrief.  There we will hand in our walk sheets so as to collect all of the information that you have gathered.

Please assist if you can.  Every vote can count in what may be a close contest for an Assembly seat.
