ACT-supported wind farm leads nation

A new report by Windlab has found the ACT-supported Coonooer Bridge wind farm is the best performing in the country this year, Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability Shane Rattenbury said today.

“It’s fantastic that Coonooer Bridge wind farm in Victoria, which commenced generating renewable electricity for the ACT in 2016, has been found to be a nation leader in its operation,” Mr Rattenbury said.

Improving care, safety and health of detainees

The ACT Government has welcomed the 16 recommendations in the Health Services Commissioner’s Review of the Opioid Replacement Treatment (ORT) Program at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC).

Improving access to restorative justice

The ACT Government has today introduced new laws into the Legislative Assembly to give victims of crime improved access to restorative justice.

Minister for Justice Shane Rattenbury said that the Crimes (Restorative Justice) Amendment Bill 2018 will also help keep young people out of the criminal justice system.

NEG: Federal coalition capitulates on climate, says ACT

The Federal Government has now completely capitulated on emissions and climate change, and abandoned the Paris Climate Change commitments, ACT Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability Shane Rattenbury said today.

“The NEG is dead. It was hailed as a policy to address the ‘trilemma’ of prices, reliability and emissions reduction. Instead, Federal energy policy is being determined by the worst, climate change denying elements of the Liberal Party,” Mr Rattenbury said.

First electric vehicle charging station for Ginninderry

An ActewAGL electric vehicle charging station, the first to service West Belconnen and the first of several planned for the Ginninderry development, was launched today by Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury.

“This is an important step in our ongoing commitment as a world leader in renewable energy and to the ACT’s Transition to Zero Emissions Vehicle Action Plan which was launched in April this year,” Mr Rattenbury said.

Territory MLAs urge Federal Senate to Restore Territory Rights

ACT Greens MLA Caroline Le Couteur and ACT Labor MLA Tara Cheyne have today joined to urge the Federal Senate to lift restrictions barring the Territories from determining their own legislation in relation to voluntary assisted dying.

The ACT had been subject to the Euthanasia Laws Act 1997, the so-called ‘Andrews Bill’: a federally imposed law introduced by right-wing conservative Kevin Andrews. The Federal Government added a section to the Australian Capital Territory (Self-Government) Act 1988 to specifically to prevent the ACT from making laws which would permit voluntary assisted dying.
