The ACT Greens have slammed the Canberra Liberals’ secret health plans after Jeremy Hanson was forced to come clean about their plan to shut down the Tuggeranong and Gungahlin walk in centres today.
“The Canberra Liberals have spent the last year lying to the Canberra community about light rail costs, and twisting the truth on health care and hospitals, but now we can see their real plans,” said ACT Greens health spokesperson Indra Esguerra.
“The Canberra Liberals want to shut down the well-used walk in centre in Tuggeranong and stop the successful centres being rolled out for more Canberra residents.”
“If the Canberra Liberals cared about hospitals or keeping Canberrans healthy they would be investing in walk in centres, not shutting them down. Walk in centres help reduce waiting times, and they offer free, high quality care and one-off advice and treatment for people with minor illness and injury.
“In 2012 the Canberra Liberals announced their plan to slash walk in centres on morning radio and were forced to back down by lunch time. The Greens will stand with the community against any cuts to our walk in centres or health care," Ms Esguerra said.
Indra Esguerra said the Canberra Liberals’ plan to shut down walk in centres and tear up light rail is in stark contrast to the Greens’ plan to keep Canberrans healthy and invest in nurses, walk in centres and preventative health.
“The Greens have committed to two new walk-in centres in Dickson and Weston Creek to meet the needs of a growing population.
"The Greens’ commitment to two new walk in centres and 50 additional community nurses will keep Canberrans healthy without putting more pressure on our hospitals.
“The Liberals are out of touch with what Canberrans need. They are so desperate for power that they will say anything to win - including entirely contradictory things about hospitals.”
