ACT Greens Arts spokesperson Indra Esguerra today announced that the Greens would build Stage 2 of the Belconnen Arts Centre.
“Belconnen Arts Centre has been a wonderful hub for the Belconnen community ever since it opened,” Ms Esguerra said.
“But it was always intended to be a two stage project - and it has really started to outgrow its space. Not only has it reached capacity, but sadly, it is turning artists and exhibitions away.
“All resident artist studios are now full, and its disability arts program Ignite has a waiting list.
“The Greens understand that a vibrant arts culture needs spaces for artists and performers to meet, create, display, practice and perform. That’s why we’re announcing that we will build Stage 2 of the Belconnen Arts Centre,” Ms Esguerra said.
Ms Esguerra said the project would revitalise the Emu Bank foreshore, which was originally intended to be an entertainment area.
“Stage 2 will help turn the Emu Bank foreshore into an entertainment area and bring more community and cultural activities to Belconnen.
“The Belconnen Arts Centre is already home to important music and dance companies, and it has the potential to become something even greater. The Greens are committed to building an arts hub that the community can be proud of.”
